Above is a picture of my district at the MTC. Our teachers are the women on the top row. Dated May 3 2006 The Missionary Training Center is a pretty amazing operation. They have 1600 missionaries in training. Every Wednesday new missionaries come in and the "graduated" ones leave. The schedule is intense. If this is God's Army, I'm in Boot Camp. Wake 6:30 Class 7-8 Breakfast 8-8:30 Class 8:30-1 Lunch 1-1:45 Class 1:45-6 Dinner 6-6:45 Class 6:45-9:30 Lights Out 10:30 Needless to say, the first week was tough. They have 3 weeks to teach us how to be effective missionaries. They don't mess around, they put us right to work. We do lots of studying and then we split our time between these three resources. The Referral Center, where people call and ask for free movies, Bibles, or Book of Mormon. We need to be available and knowledgeable enough to answer people's questions. This is one of my favorite activities, because you get some crazy fun people on the phone. We also have a Teaching Evaluation Center where we go and teach hired teachers and then they give us feedback on how we could improve. This is really a gritty, raw experience. I always get really nervous in this place. Then there is the Teacher Resource Center. This is where we go and teach in a simulated home and then afterward get to watch a video and critique ourselves. This is a great exercise. It's really effective for our improvement. Then every Tuesday they have a guest speaker come and give us council and advice on missionary work. Last night Elder David Bednar, one of the 12 apostles, came and spoke to us. It was a powerful meeting. He taught us how to study the scriptures more effectively as as how to teach with the Spirit of God. Being a missionary is really an amazing thing. I've already felt myself change in just this short amount of time. I'm honored to serve and I am called to the work as an ambassador of Jesus Christ.
